This is a series of 5 video sequences that explore innovative ways to use a folding chair in the practice of postural yoga. A folding chair has long been used in the practice of Iyengar Yoga. These videos explore some less traditional uses of the chair. The intention being to allow students and teachers have safe access to many poses they would not normally be able to do without an external means of support.

In this 6 part workshop series we begin with an emphasis on stability and work progressively toward the type of mobility that makes it possible for us to move freely with grace and ease. We will cultivate true mobility which is flexibility plus strength and motor control. We will playfully step outside the box (and off the mat at times!) and explore our yoga/movement practice with a spirit of curiosity and possibility.

Deep Play is an in depth and playful foray into asana practice using a folding chair as a support, partner and teacher! The Deep Play series builds on the work explored in our first series called Playful Practice with the Chair. This series can be done even if you have not tried Playful Practice with the Chair. Here we go even further into core stabilization work, supported arm balancing poses, hip and shoulder work and backbends! These novel pose variations will include basic, intermediate and advanced poses and are presented precisely, playfully, with the intention of making the practice of these poses as fun and accessible as possible.
